How to Declare Biology or Health & Human Biology Concentration?
Declaring your concentration in Biology or Health & Human Biology (HHB) is an important step, and the BUE Office here to support you through the process.
Whether you’re passionate about molecular biology, ecology, human health, planetary health, or biomedical research, we’re thrilled to support you in shaping your academic path. Follow the steps below to get started, and don’t hesitate to use our advising resources if you have any questions along the way.
- Review the concentration requirements on the BUE website under the individual concentration pages or visit Focal Point.
- Make a list of completed and intended courses that you intend to use towards the concentration. Map out your remaining semesters to account for biology course availability as well as other educational goals. Use these worksheets (Biology AB, Biology ScB, HHB) to ensure all requirements are met. In the next step, you will use the completed worksheet to add courses to ASK.
- Log into ASK to complete your declaration (see instructions and screenshots in the IT Knowledgebase). Use your worksheet to add each course. Those that you have already completed or are currently registered for should be added from your academic history and you should manually add those you plan to take in future semesters. Only include courses relevant to the concentration and listed on your worksheet. You should submit a course plan with 14 courses for Biology AB, 14 courses for HHB, and 20 courses for Biology ScB. Submit your proposed course list and short-answer responses.
- Your BUE concentration advisor will review your declaration and either approve it or request revisions. If revisions are needed, you must resubmit your declaration after making the required changes.
- Meet with your Faculty Advisor. Once your plan is approved by your Concentration Advisor, you will be assigned a faculty advisor, who will provide guidance on research, career exploration, and broader academic goals.
