"In my application, I emphasized how my current research and extracurricular activities connected to my interest in conducting cardiovascular and cardiothoracic surgery research. Whether taking outside classes like Introduction to Cardiology or working on initiatives to increase the access of heart-conscious, sustainable food to vulnerable populations, I was able to highlight my passion for the specific research field. Other crucial components were making sure to ask for a good mentor recommendation letter and tailoring my application to the specific goals of the program."
