"My application probably benefitted from a clear identification of research area and a description of the sources of my motivation. I personally think it is worth keeping in mind that funded programs designed to enrich a student's research experience for a future research career (and) want to make sure that students being selected are serious and dedicated. Therefore, to be a successful applicant, we do need to convince them about our commitment. It may be worth identifying a research area and reflecting upon yourself what motivates you for this area of research. Once you can convince yourself, you can start to convince other people as well."
